Louisville organization celebrates Smoketown with event while promoting wealth building – WLKY Louisville
A local organization helped celebrate one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods on Saturday. The Community Foundation of Louisville partnered with the MELANnaire Marketplace and the Wealth Building Movement to celebrate Smoketown while also building wealth in the area. The resource fair was not only used to give people a fun place to gather but also to teach people about affordable homeownership and tenant rights. “This celebration is not only about celebrating families but how do we organize listen and learn together so we can do something that is going to shift power from the foundation to people who care most about this community,” said Ramona Dallum Lindsey of the Community Foundation of Louisville. Smoketown is the only post-Civil War neighborhood settled mainly by African Americans that remains in Louisville.
